Charedi Rabbis Rush To Disavow Anti-Gentile Book

Leaders of the country's most prominent ultra-Orthodox yeshiva are scrambling to distance themselves from a book by one of their disciples, which argues that gentiles are "completely evil" and Jews constitute a separate, genetically superior species.

Written by Rabbi Saadya Grama — an alumnus of Beth Medrash Govoha, the renowned yeshiva in Lakewood, N.J. — the self-published book attempts to employ classical Jewish sources in defense of a race-based theory of Jewish supremacy. Grama's book, published in Hebrew under the title "Romemut Yisrael Ufarashat Hagalut," includes flowery endorsements from the most revered religious scholars at the renowned Lakewood yeshiva, including the institution's foremost religious leader, or rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Aryeh Malkiel Kotler.

Yet, in a statement issued Tuesday in response to queries from the Forward, Kotler rejected Grama's philosophy and said that he had not carefully reviewed the text prior to endorsing it.

"We have seen the objectionable statements that allegedly appear in a sefer [book] written by Rabbi Grama, a former student at our yeshivah," wrote Kotler, whose late grandfather Rabbi Aharon Kotler founded the Lakewood yeshiva. "I did glance briefly at the book but did not read it carefully — which is the general practice in providing approbations to the many books by alumni that come across a desk like mine."

In his rare statement to the press, Kotler added: "In looking at the specific points allegedly contained in the sefer, I can certainly tell you that they are not reflective of normative Jewish thought and are certainly not the philosophy of our yeshivah. Our philosophy asserts that every human being is created in the image of the Lord and the primacy of integrity and honesty in all dealings without exception. I strongly repudiate any assertions in the name of Judaism that do not represent and reflect this philosophy."

The statement Tuesday struck a dramatically different chord from Kotler's earlier endorsement of the book, in which he said Grama has written "on the subjects of the Exile, the Election of Israel and her exaltation above and superiority to all of the other nations, all in accordance with the viewpoint of the Torah, based on the solid instruction he has received from his teachers."

Kotler's disavowal of the book on Tuesday came at the end of an intense, day-long scramble during which the Anti-Defamation League and the chancellor of Yeshiva University condemned the book, and several ultra-Orthodox communal spokesmen tried to convince the Forward not to report its existence. During the course of the day, a popular bookstore in the heavily Orthodox Boro Park section of Brooklyn told the Forward that it had just pulled the book off of the tables at the author's request.

The controversy over Grama's book comes as the yeshiva is close to securing $500,000 in federal funds for a Holocaust library (see accompanying story on Page 4).

Coincidentally, in his book, Grama argues that the Holocaust was both a divine punishment against the Jews for assimilation and also proof of the "true nature and face" of the non-Jewish world. The book's title could be translated in several ways, including "The Grandeur of Israel and the Issue of Exile" and "Jewish Superiority and the Question of Exile."

Grama did not return a call seeking clarification on this point and other questions about his polemic.

In his book, Grama writes: "The difference between the people of Israel and the nations of the world is an essential one. The Jew by his source and in his very essence is entirely good. The goy, by his source and in his very essence is completely evil. This is not simply a matter of religious distinction, but rather of two completely different species."

Grama's explanation of the Holocaust, as well as his other theories, drew harsh criticism from Rabbi Norman Lamm, chancellor of Yeshiva University and the rosh hayeshiva of its affiliated seminary. Lamm said that his only knowledge of the book came from passages provided to him by the Forward, but that he rejected what he understood to be Grama's arguments.

"It is a book by someone who has obviously taken leave of his senses and adopted the kind of racism that was used against Jews since the beginning of time," said Lamm, one of Modern Orthodoxy's most prominent leaders. "I almost feel like offering a conjecture that it was written by an antisemite posing as a rabbi."

Lamm added: "The passages that I have read managed to offend everyone — the Torah, the martyrs of the Holocaust, the Jewish ideals of justice and the essential divinity that inheres in every human being regardless of religion, race or ethnic origin."

In an effort to back up his arguments, Grama draws on an array of racist sources ranging from medieval theological tracts to the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche to the works of Nazi figures. Among other things, Grama argues:

• The differences between Jews and gentiles are not religious, historical, cultural or political. They are, rather, racial, genetic and scientifically unalterable. The one group is at its very root and by natural constitution "totally evil" while the other is "totally good."

• Jewish successes in the world are completely contingent upon the failure of all other peoples. Only when the gentiles face total catastrophe do the Jews experience good fortune.

• The Jews themselves brought about their own destruction during the Holocaust, since they arrogantly endeavored to overcome their very essence, dictated by divine law, by leaving their ghettoes and trying to assimilate into Christian European society. The confrontational approach of the Zionists, their boycott of German products and anti-Nazi demonstrations in particular, only exacerbated the peril to European Jewry. For this they were massacred by Hitler who, while himself an evil person, was acting as God's agent in punishing the Jews.

Grama also argues that in opposition to Zionism's advocacy of Jewish national self-assertion and self-defense, which he views as an imitation of "gentile ways," the Torah mandates that the Jews, while in exile, should employ such means as appeasement, deception, duplicity and even "bribery" in their dealing with gentiles, so as to avoid their wrath.

Grama's full-blown racialist theories appear to break new ground, building on a handful of hints of national and racial chauvinism occasionally found in the writings of a few earlier rabbinic figures, but combining them into a racialist doctrine with no precedent in rabbinic literature. To be sure, a minority stream exists in the rabbinic tradition — from the 11th- and 12th-century Hebrew romantic poet Yehuda Halevy to the 18th century chasidic sage Levi Yitzhak of Berditchev — which sees the differences between Jew and gentile as innate, rather than merely religious. Perhaps the most extreme version of this view is found in the central text of Chabad chasidism, Tanya, whose author, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Lyadi, Chabad's founder, maintained that Jewish and gentile souls are fundamentally different, the former "divine" and the latter "animalistic." That viewpoint has gained ground in recent decades, particularly among charedi thinkers.

Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburgh, who is considered one of the leading ideologues of the Israeli Chabad movement, has written and spoken widely on the superiority of Jews and was briefly imprisoned in Israel for racial incitement. Yated Ne'eman, an Orthodox weekly in upstate New York that is affiliated with one of Israel's main charedi dailies, has published essays on the question of whether medical research can be understood to apply to Jews given the innate physiological differences between Jews and gentiles.

Such arguments, however, have historically stood in tension with the prevailing rabbinic view that the righteous gentiles of the world — those who exhibit the basic ethical and moral behavior encapsulated in the "Seven Laws of Noah" — had the same access to personal salvation as fully observant Jews. This view was summed up in the 12th century by Moses Maimonides, arguably the most important Jewish sage of the past millennium, when he wrote in his code of Jewish law: "Anyone who accepts the Seven Laws of Noah and is careful to observe them is one of the righteous among the nations of the world and he has a portion in the world to come."

Critics complained that Grama's racial theories also conflicts with ancient and medieval rabbinic rules mandating equal treatment in all realms for converts to Judaism.

Grama frequently quotes Biblical verses that advocate terribly harsh treatment of the pagan inhabitants of ancient Canaan, implying that the same standards ought to be applied to his non-Jewish neighbors in America. By doing so, he appears to disregard extensive rabbinic deliberations dating back to the early medieval period whose general consensus was that Christianity and Islam are licit, monotheistic faiths. The net result of these medieval rabbinic deliberations was to limit the application of such Biblical laws to ancient pagans, and to mandate that Muslims and Christians could not be classified together with the idol-worshippers of earlier times.

When informed of Grama's arguments, the associate national director of the Anti-Defamation League, Kenneth Jacobson, described them as "pure racism."

"It shows that we in our community are quite capable of the same kind of hatred that exists in other communities," Jacobson said. "We have an obligation to reject hatred in our community, just as we do when it comes out of other communities."

The folowing is one of life's little pleasures, that of being able to trounce the opposition. This is a true story, and one in which I offer in the hope that we should all learn from it.

On occasion, we are forced to reconcile our activities and to review where we have been, and where we are going. It is from this perspective that, when confronted with an attempt by one of my detractors to belittle me by referring to me as a ‘pseudo-academic’, that I now offer the following post.

In his effort to chastise me as a fraud, he compared me to Sisyphus. Not being well versed in the pantheon of the Greek mythology, I did a search on google and this is what I found. I immediately thanked this person for the back-handed compliment, as the labors of Sisyphus are the labors of life. In my reconciliation, I have decided to stay the course.

The Myth of Sisyphus

The gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain, whence the stone would fall back of its own weight. They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.

If one believes Homer, Sisyphus was the wisest and most prudent of mortals. According to another tradition, however, he was disposed to practice the profession of highwayman. I see no contradiction in this. Opinions differ as to the reasons why he became the futile laborer of the underworld. To begin with, he is accused of a certain levity in regard to the gods. He stole their secrets. Egina, the daughter of Esopus, was carried off by Jupiter. The father was shocked by that disappearance and complained to Sisyphus. He, who knew of the abduction, offered to tell about it on condition that Esopus would give water to the citadel of Corinth. To the celestial thunderbolts he preferred the benediction of water. He was punished for this in the underworld. Homer tells us also that Sisyphus had put Death in chains. Pluto could not endure the sight of his deserted, silent empire. He dispatched the god of war, who liberated Death from the hands of her conqueror.

It is said that Sisyphus, being near to death, rashly wanted to test his wife's love. He ordered her to cast his unburied body into the middle of the public square. Sisyphus woke up in the underworld. And there, annoyed by an obedience so contrary to human love, he obtained from Pluto permission to return to earth in order to chastise his wife. But when he had seen again the face of this world, enjoyed water and sun, warm stones and the sea, he no longer wanted to go back to the infernal darkness. Recalls, signs of anger, warnings were of no avail. Many years more he lived facing the curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the smiles of earth. A decree of the gods was necessary. Mercury came and seized the impudent man by the collar and, snatching him from his joys, lead him forcibly back to the underworld, where his rock was ready for him.

You have already grasped that Sisyphus is the absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture. His scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. This is the price that must be paid for the passions of this earth. Nothing is told us about Sisyphus in the underworld. Myths are made for the imagination to breathe life into them. As for this myth, one sees merely the whole effort of a body straining to raise the huge stone, to roll it, and push it up a slope a hundred times over; one sees the face screw ed up, the cheek tight against the stone, the shoulder bracing the clay-covered mass, the foot wedging it, the fresh start with arms outstretched, the wholly human security of two earth- clotted hands. At the very end of his long effort measured by skyless space and time without depth, the purpose is achieved. Then Sisyphus watches the stone rush down in a few moments toward that lower world whence he will have to push it up again toward the summit. He goes back down to the plain.

It is during that return, that pause, that Sisyphus interests me. A face that toils so close to stones is already stone itself! I see that man going back down with a heavy yet measured step toward the torment of which he will never know the end. That hour like a breathing-space which returns as surely as his suffering, that is the hour of consciousness. At each of those moments when he leaves the heights and gradually sinks toward the lairs of the gods, he is superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.

If this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious. Where would his torture be, indeed, if at every step the hope of succeeding upheld him? The workman of today works everyday in his life at the same tasks, and his fate is no less absurd. But it is tragic only at the rare moments when it becomes conscious. Sisyphus, proletarian of the gods, powerless and rebellious, knows the whole extent of his wretched condition: it is what he thinks of during his descent. The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. There is no fate that can not be surmounted by scorn.

If the descent is thus sometimes performed in sorrow, it can also take place in joy. This word is not too much. Again I fancy Sisyphus returning toward his rock, and the sorrow was in the beginning. When the images of earth cling too tightly to memory, when the call of happiness becomes too insistent, it happens that melancholy arises in man's heart: this is the rock's victory, this is the rock itself. The boundless grief is too heavy to bear. These are our nights of Gethsemane. But crushing truths perish from being acknowledged. Thus, Edipus at the outset obeys fate without knowing it. But from the moment he knows, his tragedy begins. Yet at the same moment, blind and desperate, he realizes that the only bond linking him to the world is the cool hand of a girl. Then a tremendous remark rings out: "Despite so many ordeals, my advanced age and the nobility of my soul make me conclude that all is well." Sophocles' Edipus, like Dostoevsky's Kirilov, thus gives the recipe for the absurd victory. Ancient wisdom confirms modern heroism.

One does not discover the absurd without being tempted to write a manual of happiness. "What!---by such narrow ways--?" There is but one world, however. Happiness and the absurd are two sons of the same earth. They are inseparable. It would be a mistake to say that happiness necessarily springs from the absurd discovery. It happens as well that the felling of the absurd springs from happiness. "I conclude that all is well," says Edipus, and that remark is sacred. It echoes in the wild and limited universe of man. It teaches that all is not, has not been, exhausted. It drives out of this world a god who had come into it with dissatisfaction and a preference for futile suffering. It makes of fate a human matter, which must be settled among men.

All Sisyphus' silent joy is contained therein. His fate belongs to him. His rock is a thing likewise, the absurd man, when he contemplates his torment, silences all the idols. In the universe suddenly restored to its silence, the myriad wondering little voices of the earth rise up. Unconscious, secret calls, invitations from all the faces, they are the necessary reverse and price of victory. There is no sun without shadow, and it is essential to know the night. The absurd man says yes and his efforts will henceforth be unceasing. If there is a personal fate, there is no higher destiny, or at least there is, but one which he concludes is inevitable and despicable. For the rest, he knows himself to be the master of his days. At that subtle moment when man glances backward over his life, Sisyphus returning toward his rock, in that slight pivoting he contemplates that series of unrelated actions which become his fate, created by him, combined under his memory's eye and soon sealed by his death. Thus, convinced of the wholly human origin of all that is human, a blind man eager to see who knows that the night has no end, he is still on the go. The rock is still rolling.

I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain! One always finds one's burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night filled mountain, in itself forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.

The Protocols - a Neocon Manifesto

I have to confess. The outrageous in-your-face behavior of the neocons finally got to me as Armageddon approaches, after seeing more and more references to it (albeit usually wacky), I recently downloaded the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Guiltily, mind you, as if it were Mein Kampf or porno. I bet you haven't dared (or bothered) to read it.

So what is this best-selling political tract of the 20th century, the reading of which carried the death penalty in Stalinist Russia, lauded by the likes of Henry Ford and Winston Churchill, and then loudly condemned for the past 60 years since it was briefly declared an anti-Semitic forgery (in a Swiss court in 1935 overturned by the Appeals Court in 1937)?

The bile aside, it is in fact a series of 24 mostly articulate, well-argued lectures outlining a plan for world capitalist domination, with sharp political and social analysis, lots of Machiavelli and a Marxian sophistication in its understanding of capitalism and historical processes. Briefly, it outlines a plan of world conquest by first establishing world government by consent. As with any brilliant political analysis, it has been denounced, dismissed, misinterpreted and banned. And made very good use of by those lusting for world power.

What immediately struck me was that with a little dusting off, abridging and updating, it could easily be the handbook of the neocons. With the wonders of modern computers, you can download a free copy from the Internet, cleanse it of anti-Semitism by replacing "fellow Jews" with "neocons" and make sense of what's happening in the world today.

Mysterious origins? Not really

Though its origins are still unknown, it was clearly inspired by the French revolution and its aftermath, the then-popular Masonic order, and most of all the nascent 19th century Zionist movement. All that we know is that it was written in France and brought to Russia, supposedly in 1884. It first appeared in print in St Petersburg in 1903, but reached the West only after the Russian revolution. It caused an immediate sensation, originally crudely interpreted as foretelling the Bolshevik revolution as the crucial link in a Jewish conspiracy to rule the world. As such, it was admired by the likes of Churchill and Ford, both confirmed anti-communists and anti-Semites.

True, it has the prescience to allow for an anti-capitalist revolution on the way to its final goal, but there's nothing even vaguely socialist in it. It's firmly founded on a plan for capitalist domination through Jewish control of international finance and just happened to appear at the very moment of the founding of the Zionist movement, with its goal of establishing as soon as possible a Jewish state in Palestine, backed by powerful worldwide Ashkenaze Jewish economic interests.

It's as if an especially ruthless and well-read 19th c Zionist, inspired by the Rothschilds and other great Jewish financiers of the time, wrote it or most of it, as I am sure is the case. Really, it reads as if it were written by the Jungian shadow of the likes of Zionism's founder, Theodore Herzl, or any of Israel's notables from Ben Gurion to Ariel Sharon. Its anti-goyim callousness certainly indicate it was not written for public consumption, and after Hitler, it was relegated to the Forbidden Shelf in ALL libraries along with Mein Kampf and naked bottoms. But it is very hard to believe that it is a spoof or a mere provocation, as it is just too impressive in detail and understanding of the logic of late 19th c capitalism.

Did Hitler read it? I bet the Nazis read it carefully. They certainly followed much of its advice, from how to use the press, to how to manipulate both politicians and the masses in consolidating their political hold. It's also clear why destruction of the Jews became Hitler's tragic obsession. His New World Order (NWO) would have to exclude a group even remotely connected with such a scheme for world domination. As the neocons warn today: 'You are either with us or against us."

Many paths - but they all lead to Rome

The trouble with the Protocols is that it has been interpreted since it was published to suit the prejudices of the moment. In pre-revolutionary Russia, it provided fuel for the already widespread Russian anti-Semitism. In post-WWI Europe and America, it provided fuel against the Russian revolution. In the post-WWII world, it became the Bible of American isolationists and racists who see the poor UN as the dreaded "World Government," backed by the Soviet Union and 3rd world revolutions. Now it is read by Muslims as proof of the conspiracy by US imperialism to destroy them.

Another problem is that there have been many variations on the theme of the NWO ever since the collapse of the Roman Empire. The French revolution and Napoleonic conquests, the Masonic lodges, imperial Germany and England all have had their own NWO fantasy. The Russian revolution was the most radical attempt at a NWO, and even can be distinguished for the large number of Jews who took part, but despite the fact that the Protocols was first published in Russia and strictly banned during the Soviet period, the Soviet experiment was not even remotely the final World Government of the Protocols, as it was anti-capitalist in its essence.

The red herring in it is of course 'Jewish', which is supposed to refer to a race. The Jews referred to in the Protocols are the European Ashkenazy Jews, who had been traditionally usurers and who were in the 19th century becoming increasing wealthy and part of the mainstream European culture. From them sprang the Zionists, who transformed a religion where God is to bring them to the 'promised land' someday into an active plan to seize Palestine based on their growing international economic and financial might. So it is this group that is the real inspiration behind the Protocols and not some amorphous Jewish RACE. Think of the authors as the neocons of the day. For by the 19th century, usury was the norm, and the rapid spread of capitalism meant that the Western world effectively became Jewish, as Marx put it, and adopted the Jewish idea of success.

Yet another problem. It is loudly dismissed as a forgery. Hello? It was anonymous, so how can it be a forgery. Who forged what? No wonder the Swiss Appeals Court threw the case out. In that case we can dismiss the Bible as a forgery. And who cares who wrote the Psalms anyway? They stand on their own merits, as does the Protocols stripped of a few provocative phrases here and there, which could have been slipped in by anyone.

You may well protest: "The Protocols attributes the conscious machinations of Jews to be behind all historical developments. I don't believe the Zionists are either so powerful, or so far-sighted." In answer: It's not necessary for our actions to be premeditated. The logic of world capitalism sweeps us along, whether we like it or not. Some players are more conscious (and ruthless) than others. They become the Herzls, the Wolfowitzes, the Sharons. The rest of us get swept along, either yielding to, or fighting the current: the Bushes and the Schwartzeneggers or the goyim. The Protocols (or its original, if it is indeed a forgery) was inspired by the new economic system sweeping the world, and composed by the 19th century equivalent of the neocons. It hasn't played itself out yet, just as capitalism hasn't played itself out. We ignore it at our peril.

Arise, ye prisoners of starvation?

Contrast the Zionist movement with the other great attempt at a NWO from the 19th century on -- the world socialist movement. It is far weaker, split by nationalism and hundreds of ideological splinters, and motivated by social justice, a far less competitive motivation that money, wealth and power-for-its-own-sake. The Protocols is quite clear about this: "Our triumph has been rendered easier by the fact that in our relations with the men whom we wanted we have always worked upon the most sensitive chords of the human mind, upon the cash account, upon the cupidity, upon the insatiability for material needs of man: and each one of these human weaknesses, taken alone, is sufficient to paralyze initiative, for it hands over the will of men to the disposition of him who has bought their activities." (I)

There is no fear of the dangerous effective of democracy: "The abstraction of freedom has enabled us to persuade the mob in all countries that their government is nothing but the steward of the people who are the owners of the country, and that the steward may be replaced like a worn-out glove. It is this possibility of replacing the representatives of the people which has placed them at our disposal, and, as it were, given us the power of appointment." (I)

Socialism never had a chance against this corrosive Machiavellianism, though, just in case, the Protocols had a plan: "The hour strikes when, not for the sake of attaining the good, not even to win wealth, but solely out of hatred towards the privileged, the lower classes of the goyim will follow our lead against our rivals for power, the intellectuals of the goyim." (IV) This is the only reference to the use of a revolt of the masses, which was seized upon to associate the Protocols with the Russian revolution. Rather slim pickings, and it reveals the strategy is to undermine the "intellectuals of the goyim," i.e., the socialist opposition to world capitalism.

On the contrary, the Russian revolution seemed to really shake the very foundations of the plan for world capitalist domination. Curiously in its first 30 years the SU had the Zionists split. Why? Well, no doubt partly because many rank-and-file Zionists were socialist by persuasion, truly wanted the SU to succeed and hoped for a socialist Israel as a bonus (Herzl's utopian novel depicts a socialist Israel). But for the Zionist fanatics of the Protocols, their fence-sitting was because achieving their own state was the main priority, and required the support of both the communist and capitalist camps.

And as for the softer versions of socialism which have surfaced occasionally in the West, their headway has always been kept well in check, and social democratic reforms were rolled back very easily after the collapse of the SU, via the tactics envisaged in the Protocols. So the plan of the Protocols should not be confused with the many variations on a socialist/ communist NWO.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em

The Protocols also lauds "the successes we arranged for Darwinism, Marxism, Nietzscheism." (II) Why promote such radicals? Because of the "disintegrating importance these directives have had upon the minds of the goyim." Just how central to Marx's success these Zionists were is debatable.

But it's become clear to me that Zionists have penetrated and tried to control all the NWO fantasies, from left to right, to further their own cause. It is not surprise then that they have been at the center of the present neocon insurgency from the start. And as for the EU-as-NWO, Sharon even suggested Israel should join the EU since 'share common ideals'. In spite of Israel's loathing for the UN, it is at the very heart of THAT beleaguered, clumsy organization too (with a stake in hand just in case, it can be argued). It has recently been revealed that Zionists are even involved with extreme right anti-Semitic movements in Europe and with the creation of Hamas. After all, anti-Semitism is the Zionist's best defense. "The Jewish group has thrived on oppression and on the antagonism it has forever met in the world." (Albert Einstein, Collier's Magazine, November 26, 1938)

True, anti-Semitism got out of control under Hitler and it even looked like it was touch-and-go for a while for the Ashkenazy Jews of Europe, but fascism was in turn destroyed by a capitalist-communist alliance, with Zionists at its heart, as the Protocols so brilliantly foretold: "For a time perhaps we might be successfully dealt with by a coalition of the goyim of all the world: but from this danger we are secured by the discord existing among them whose roots are so deeply seated that they can never now be plucked up." (VI) Divide and rule!

The Holocaust gave the fanatical Zionists their long-sought state, which allowed them to discard any socialist pretensions and nurture the capitalist-Zionist alliance essential to the goal of world domination. The defining moment is perhaps the triumph of the neocons under Reagan in the 1980s. The Zionists had consolidated their hold on American foreign policy under Democrat Carter, and were ready to make the alliance official under Republican Reagan. It is at this point that the very term Zionist and even Jew can be discarded. As I have argued elsewhere, "We are all Jews now." As the opposition grows weaker, with the shield of the Holocaust at the ready, the neocon-Zionist alliance has begun to act more and more brazenly to consolidate its hold on the world and destroy the last meaningful resistance - the Islamic world.

The ultimate trump card

Not only was the Holocaust and the way to defeat it foreseen in the Protocols, but, like the anti-Semitism that gave rise to it, it has been turned into the ultimate defense of the Zionist cause. A kind of perverse win-win situation for the Zionists.

It transformed important anti-Semites into Judeophiles overnight. While Churchill was an enthusiastic reader of the Protocols before WWII, he became an enthusiastic supporter of the foundation of Israel after, and shifted his anti-Semitism onto the Arabs. Stalin, also a confirmed anti-Semite, provided the key vote at the UN to approve the foundation of Israel and supplied crucial arms via Czechoslovakia to the beleaguered state, foolishly thinking he could ultimately manipulate. Ha, ha! Finally it became the linchpin in consolidating today's neocon-Zionist alliance, and a brilliant defense for all manner of Zionist crimes: "We can do anything to defend ourselves after the Holocaust!"

The icing on the cake is the impressive Holocaust museum which blends in tastefully with the Lincoln and Washington memorials in the heart of Washington, D.C. (Note: There is no museum to the Holocaust against the native peoples or the blacks.)

A crack in the wall?

While 'Old Europe' has made some noises about this lethal NWO, the governments are nonetheless beholden to it, and can do little but try to carve a slightly bigger piece of the pie. No, the only meaningful remaining resistance to the neocon-Zionist NWO is the as yet unbrainwashed goyim of the world - the peace movement and the Islamic world, strange bedfellows at best.

However, there are some disturbing ripples in the NWO waters. Bush/Sharon have chosen the warpath, while the Soros branch, which includes Europe, wants a more peaceful transition. The reckless policies of the erstwhile "servile administrator" in Washington are quite possibly endangering the very economic foundation of the NWO. The Protocols foresees such chaos, though it presumes to be in control of it: "We shall soon begin to establish huge monopolies, reservoirs of colossal riches, upon which even large fortunes of the GOYIM will depend to such an extent that they will go to the bottom together with the credit of the States on the day after the political smash...." (VI)

Such a collapse of the present world financial system is not at all beyond the realm of possibility. And if it comes, it could take down the US government and the neocons with it. It is here that the PROTOCOLS begins to unravel. The Protocols assumes the corporate financial cabal controlling the world economy will be invited to take over bankrupt governments with their World Government, as indeed has been happening under the guise of IMF restructuring programs and more recently by direct invasion. But the bankrupt and invaded countries, such as Argentina, most of Africa, Afghanistan, Iraq for starters are proving to be problematic, more than the cabal can digest.

Maybe, just maybe, the neocons' gamble will trip them up before they reach the finish line and they will end up along side the despised GOYIM at the bottom. A switch to a gold dinar in the Muslim world and oil-euros for the rest would seriously endanger the NWO, as would a massive ecological disaster, natural or man-made.

The mild neocons (Soros etal) see this clearly and are scurrying to minimize collateral damage. Theirs is a strategy closer to the spirit of the Protocols - no overt wars, a careful amassing of power through education and the control of the press, no dangerous splits in the capitalist-Zionist alliance, achieving victory through financial and trade blackmail. Have a look at the Protocols yourself. It's all there.

So, are these cowboy jackboot high jinks a momentary glitch in the triumphal march to the neocon-Zionist paradise? Will a Howard Dean, urged on by Soros, put the out-of-control steamroller back on its proper path? Or has the Protocols played itself out? Is our present apocalyptic scenario instead a crack that gives us hope of emerging from this nightmarish plot?

Rational racism?

I don't know about the Elders, the Symbolic Snake, the actual killing off of the goyim, whether the line of King David will be re-established to rule the world, the importance of the Masons, or whether the French Revolution "was wholly the work of our hands". There's surprisingly little of such bile for a work of such notoriety, and it can be easily edited out so as not to distract from the sharp analysis. Perhaps it was added by an anti-Semite as a provocation. Who knows? As for the Masons, come to think of it, the popularity of them, the Yale Skull and Bones, and other such Monty-Pythonesque groups shows a stubborn inclination by would-be GOYIM leaders to voluntarily (i.e., consciously or unconsciously) make themselves part of a world conspiracy, however idiotic.

That's not so much the problem. The major flaw behind the logic of the Protocols is its basic premise - that there is a Jewish race. There is only one race - the human race. Just have a look at Israeli society if you think there is a racial basis to Judaism. But hey! Scientists are discovering that there are genes which are responsible for skin color, that define risk-takers or those susceptible to various diseases... Maybe there's a gene for these would-be Elders of Zion. This must Be Said

Why is everyone silent in view of ALL (and the emphasis is on ALL) Germans having lost it ALL by the end of WWII. Everything that every German owned and paid for, including insurance policies, saving accounts and investments were lost. Tens of thousands of valuable art treasures, of both, medium and high art, were turned into ashes by allied-fire-storms. What was not destroyed, was immediately confiscated by the victors and removed from Germany.

More than 50.000 patents were also "kindly" removed by the victors, giving them a 50-year technical and economical advantage over an exhausted Germany. After the war, every German had to start anew with only 40 Deutsch Marks as start-up money. 40 Deutsch Marks – not 40 million! They had to rebuilt their homes from the rubble and take on the burden of mortgages, when most of them had already paid for their original homes.

They had to take and pay for new insurance policies. During the Bolshevik expulsion of Germans from their home-lands in the East and in the death-camps of the Allies, 10 million innocent men, women and children were massacred. After the war, literally, millions of women and girls were gang-raped and many died in these mass-orgies and depravities.

The following allied premeditated food-shortages annihilated another 5 million civilians and soldiers in tattered uniforms in "liberated" Germany. Hundreds of thousands of German civilians, including thousands of mothers who were torn away from their children, were deported to the Soviet Union after 1945 and ended-up as slave-labour, together with German prisoners of war. However, many ended-up as slave-labour in the Western "democracies" as well. Those, who survived the tortures of the Soviet death-camps, came back as broken human beings to a homeland that was 80 percent in ruins and rubble.

No politician ever demanded restitution for these victims of "crimes against humanity" and their descendants. In the East the Red Hordes had driven 16 million Germans from their homesteads and murdered 3 million of them on their way out. Their possessions were confiscated by Poles, Czechs and Russians. Even the silverware in the kitchen-drawers were stolen – no restitution for those crimes either.

It was in 1933 when, for the first time, Jewry declared war on Germany and called on the world to kill Adolf Hitler: "Judea declares War on Germany" (Daily Express, London, March 24, 1933, front page). The Jewish declaration of war on Germany was pronounced 19 days after Adolf Hitler won absolutely democratically the general election and only one day after he was even more democratically empowered by the "Reichstag" (parliament) to resolve the dire straits and poverty in Germany. Of course, no concentration camps were built and no restrictive Laws regarding the Jews had yet been passed at that time.

Later the World Jewish Congress and the Zionist leaders succeeded, according to the Torah True Jews, to initiate World War II: "The worldwide boycott against Germany in 1933 and the later all-out declaration of war against Germany, initiated by the Zionist leaders and the World Jewish Congress ..." (Rabbi Schwartz of the American Neturei Karta Movement, Friends of Jerusalem, stated in the New York Times, Sep. 30, 1997)

On September 3, 1939, Great Britain and France declared officially war on Hitler-Germany, not the other way around. Thus, World War II was instigated by the so-called Western democracies.

The result of WWII, initiated by the World Jewish Congress, was not only the suffering in Auschwitz but the genocide of 15 million Germans. The destruction of Germany and its cities was the aim of Jewish criminals like Ehrenburg, Morgenthau, Kaufman, Lindemann, Eisenhower and many like them. Did Israel, did the Jewish World Congress ever pay a penny to those unfortunate victims of Jewish hate? The answer is emphatically NO. Not one penny. On the contrary, these genocidal murderers have forced their victims to pay for their own suffering and to enrich Jewish Organisations with their labour and ingenuity.

These Jewish institutions continue to demand money, money, money and more money. Money for Jewish insurance-policy-holders, which had already been paid-out in 1939. The same with Jewish bank accounts. Jewish real estates and firms were paid-off under Hitler in hard foreign currency for their possessions. After the war the Germans had to rebuilt Jewish homes and factories, destroyed by Lindemann's bombing-raids. After the new German currency was established, in 1947, Israel has since been paid billions of Marks to the Jewish World Congress and other Jewish representatives around the world. The money-flow continues uninterrupted, despite the agreements already fulfilled decades ago.

For Jews in Germany, restitution is being paid for things they never possessed or owned. Israel receives billion-dollar credits from Germany that are never repaid. Products and military weapons of mass-destruction, submarines, nuclear-rockets etc. are manufactured in Germany for Israel. Not forgetting the complete infra-structure of that desert-nation. Since 1945 the "Central Council of Jews in Germany" has an un-written right of veto-interference in German foreign politics.

Paul Spiegel, leader of the Jews in Germany, reiterates relentlessly that he and his fellow Jews are real Germans, "only of the Jewish faith". Why then, are they treated so vastly different in the compensation payouts than the Germans of the Christian faith? Why is Mr. Spiegel so quiet about the underprivileged Christian Germans on this question? It appears that it is so much better to be a German of the Jewish faith, than to be a German of the Christian faith, as many observers clearly point out. If the Jews in Germany were Germans, logically, restitution money would remain in Germany, instead of going to Israel.

Shavuot Pogrom: "Nazis, Christians, Whores and Goyim"

The following N.Y. Times article mentions the attack orthodox khazars perpetrated against Palestinians on the Jewish "Shavuot" holiday.

But the main focus of the article is the attack by the orthodox khazars against liberal khazars (who are termed "Conservative and Reform"). Note the headline: "...Assault Other Jews..."

If the N.Y. Times was honest the headline would read, "Israelis Launch Pogrom Against Palestinians," but the whole terminology ("pogrom, concentration camp, war crime, holocaust") has become a liturgical phenomenon of Jewish theology and hence cannot be applied to anyone other than the Holy People without violating a taboo, which the N.Y. Times, which benefits from the sacerdotal aura of mystification which surrounds the Shoah-business ("Shoah" is the Jewish theological term for the holohoax), is not wont to do. (There's no business like Shoah business).

However, the fact is, the orthodox Israelis launched a pogrom against Palestinians, beating them en masse and destroying their vehicles (such pogroms against Palestinians are a routine occurrence in occupied Palestine) and this should have been the chief focus of the article.

At least one snippet of truth sneaked through the Pharisees' filters however, the fact of a most interesting Talmudic equation (the orthodox khazars are hardcore Talmudists) of Nazis=Christians=whores=goyim (i.e. non-Jews).

This will be news to the millions of naive non-Jews who believe that by siding with Zionists and Talmudists they will be exempt from Jewish vengeance and racism.

Orthodox Israelis Assault Other Jews at Western Wall

[J] ERUSALEM -- Conservative Jewish men and women who tried to pray together at the Western Wall during the Shavuot holiday early Wednesday morning said Thursday that they had been assaulted by hundreds of rigorously Orthodox men evidently incensed by the sight of women praying with men.

The Conservatives said the strictly Orthodox Jews, known more commonly as the haredim, had spat on them and pelted them with garbage and feces, while calling them "Nazis," "Christians," "whores" and "goyim."

The police said that after the prayers some haredi youths went on to smash Palestinian cars outside one gate to the Old City, while others gathered at Damascus Gate and attacked Palestinian passers-by. The police said several of the haredim had sprayed tear gas and thrown stones at the police and at Palestinians.

The incidents were not the first of their kind after mass prayers at the Western Wall, but by all accounts they were the most violent to date.

They reflected the growing assertiveness of strictly Orthodox Jews since their success in elections a year ago -- when they won 10 seats in Parliament and a critical bloc in the government coalition -- and in particular the increasingly bitter confrontation between the haredim and the Conservative and Reform movements.

The two modern movements claim relatively few adherents in Israel, but account for 84 percent of the Jews in the United States, so the dispute has in effect pitted American Jews against the Orthodox rabbis in Israel.

The focus of that confrontation is a bill the haredim have introduced in Parliament that would formalize the monopoly of the Orthodox rabbis in performing conversions to Judaism in Israel -- an act that also grants the convert the right to Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return.

But the haredim have also been increasingly militant in challenging the Conservative and Reform faithful directly, especially on the issue of equality for women. In Orthodox practice, women are not permitted to pray with men, be heard during prayers or read the Torah at services.

Shavuot is a holiday that commemorates Moses giving the law to the Israelites, on which observant Jews spend much of the night studying scripture.

About 30,000 Jews, most of them haredim, gathered at the Western Wall starting on Tuesday night. Rabbi Andrew Sachs, the director of the Rabbinical Assembly in Israel, an organization of Conservative rabbis, said he arrived at the wall with a group of about 100 men and women at about 4 a.m.

He said the group deliberately chose a spot far from the wall, in a corner of the broad plaza in front of it. Only a roped-in area directly in front of the wall is regarded as sacred for purposes of worship.

But Sachs said haredi youths quickly began to gather, evidently scandalized by the sight of women wearing prayer shawls and reading from the Torah. Before long several hundred surrounded them, shouting insults, spitting and throwing stones. The police tried to keep the haredim at bay but soon warned the Conservative group that they had better leave.

The Conservatives tried to regroup outside the plaza but the mob followed them. As they retreated through the Jewish Quarter, they were pelted with garbage and feces from the windows of a yeshiva, a school of religious studies, Sachs said.

"There is an environment, an atmosphere in this country right now, since the elections, in which the ultra-Orthodox almost seem to be drunk with power," Sachs said.

Politicians of the religious parties joined in denouncing the Conservatives. Haim Miller, the deputy mayor of Jerusalem and a member of the United Torah Judaism party, was quoted by the newspaper Haaretz as saying: "The very fact that the Conservative Jews, who symbolize the destruction of the Jewish people, came to the place that is holiest to the Jewish people is a provocation. They have no reason to be in this place."

"Whoever holds the integrity of the Jewish people dear to his heart will fight to the end so that Conservatives will not have a place in the state," Miller said. He said he was against violence, "but people in pain sometimes lose control..."

Apocalypse This Way Comes

A smattering of today's mainstream pundits is beginning to understand that what economically plagues us today is something quite different from the standard inflationary-recessionary cycles that have prevailed since World War II. But the great majority of talking heads and financial columnists remain clueless -- dutifully accepting the establishment line that depicts the nature of recessions from past models. The error in this view is that all recessions since World War II have been the result of Fed credit tightening and naturally were quick to respond to credit loosening. But this time around our malaise is not caused by Fed engineered high interest rates. It is far deeper and more systemic. It stems from the great Keynesian theoretical flaw that will always manifest in the long run: central bank credit expansion leads to "debt saturation" and "malinvestment," which reverses the boom that the credit expansion was meant to perpetuate, but does not do so until the latter stages of the Kondratieff cycle.

This is because central bank credit expansion brings about healthy growth like cocaine brings about well being. In the early stages of the Kondratieff cycle, businesses flourish, but once an economy becomes "debt saturated," borrowing drops off drastically, which causes the rate of money supply growth to decline by negating the central bank's multiplier effect. This brings disinflationary pressures, which then lead to actual deflation. In addition, Keynesian credit expansion also creates widespread "malinvestment," i.e., capital expenditures for which there is no genuine demand and which cannot be sustained once disinflationary pressures set in.

Thus, what is different this time is that large loads of debt and malinvestment have built up in the economy. They must now be worked off (i.e., liquidated) before demand and growth can be restored, which will require many years and considerable hardship.

As the renowned economist Ludwig von Mises warned us decades ago: "There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved." [Human Action, Regnery, 1966, p. 572.]

Despite this irreparable Keynesian flaw, our statist planners continue to believe that the Federal Reserve will be able to wave its magic "liquidity wand" and rescue us as it always has. We are governed by obtuse bureaucrats guided by neo-fascistic academics. Is it any wonder that dogma is being used to confront problems that require acumen? Those mired in "paint by the numbers" policy approaches are always historically blindsided. Such a destructive hit now awaits us.

"Something ugly this way comes," writes brash and brainy Jim Willie in his Ass-Backwards Economics series. But the bovines in our establishment pasture are not cerebrally independent enough to grasp the horrific financial collapse of which he speaks. Lacking the contrarian attitude necessary to see truth coming down the pike, they drone out Pollyannish bunkum about the economy that pacifies the herd and reinforces the dogma to which they subscribe. What they should be stocking up for, however, is the devastating "mother of all bear markets" that is now beginning its attack upon our lives in the manner that bubonic plague begins its contagion by first striking isolated victims, then later explosively metastasizing throughout the whole of society with pervasive death and ruin.

This has become our fate because our pundits cannot see the big picture and how ideology drives the engine of life. Human civilization is structured in rising and falling waves -- economic, political, technological, sociological, religious, artistic, etc. These waves all interact to make up an existential pattern that we call history. Most times these historical waves, while socially disruptive, are not catastrophic. They bring about steady progress in society through the phenomenon that Joseph Schumpeter dubbed "creative destruction" in his prophetic treatise, Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy. But every so often in history, there comes a time when one or more of the waves become TIDAL in scope and effect. They become catastrophic. This takes place when the ideological freight train of society gets thrown off the tracks into gargantuan fallacies at the fundamental philosophical level, which then causes prominent pundits and thinkers to drag their nations into disastrous policies.

Our ideological freight train got thrown off the tracks at this fundamental philosophical level 90 years ago with the advent of World War I and the end of the classical free-market age that our Founding Fathers and Adam Smith had initiated. Marxism and moral relativism descended upon us to unleash the hounds of hell. They destroyed the idea of natural law and its manifestation in a constitutionally limited government -- the combine that had sustained free civilization since the days of Magna Carta 700 years prior. Law became whatever government (and its 51% herd) said it was. This began the demise of the American system -- this rejection of a natural law transcending government that is discovered by reason, and acts as the overseer of the positive law that is formed by government and its majority will.

Once unhinged from the higher natural law, the positive law of our legislatures and our courts became like paper money unhinged from gold. It could now go wherever it wished, and that is what it proceeded to do. As a result, legislative law and judicial decree are being used by the collectivists to mandate outrageous dictates and usurpations of rights to swell government into a devouring monster. This monster now treats its citizens like manipulable X's and O's on a graph to create what its henchmen tell us will be a "great planned society," but in reality is nothing but a gross game of privilege and power lust on the part of a neo-fascist ruling elite of bureaucrats, bankers, corporate moguls, and academics.

Since there is a delay between the onset of ideological fallacy among a society's intellectuals and its manifestation in the everyday life of the society, it is difficult to perceive the connection that our troubles today have to the fallacious ideological venom unleashed decades prior. But the connection is there even though the venom takes many years to filter out among the people in the form of ruinous policy.

The poisonous ideas that resulted from the philosophical train wreck of the 1900-1920 era have been seeping into our culture ever since to create a whole series of destructive historical waves. The first of these destructive waves was the Great Depression and its resultant Keynesian-New Deal revolution. Following thereafter were others such as the "new-left hippie revolution" in the sixties, the "compulsive consumerism" of the eighties, and the hallucinatory "new economy/market bubble" of the nineties that Greenspan, Clinton, and Rubin bestowed upon us. But because the ideological train wreck was so momentous 90 years ago, we are now entering a TIDAL era of history in which the waves will become epochal and apocalyptic. That is to say, they will end our world as we know it.

As a result of the philosophical train wreck and the waves it set in motion, numerous dangerous factors now prevail in America that are driving us and the rest of the world toward a political-economic maelstrom. These factors have entrenched themselves over the decades because of our greed and shortsightedness as a people. There are four of these factors that transcend in importance all the others and now act as a guarantee of catastrophic times to come. They are what I call the "New Horsemen of the Apocalypse." They are, like their biblical namesakes, precursors to disaster.

What follows are thumbnail sketches of these new apocalyptic horsemen that threaten our society today. They are grimly portentous realities that our establishment pundits are either misinterpreting, or ignoring, or simply cannot grasp in their severity. But these four hideous horsemen are wreaking havoc in our society. And they will not go away; so we must confront them. How we choose to cope with them in the upcoming years will determine what manner of society we will construct in the aftermath of the worldwide breakdown toward which they are propelling us. The Four New Horsemen of the Apocalypse are: 1) Keynesian monetary policy, 2) Demopublican political control, 3) the Pax Americana mindset, and 4) the Kondratieff Cycle. To understand more clearly the dangers involved, let's examine each of them.

Horseman #1: Keynesian Monetary Policy

The Keynesian paradigm was presented to the world in 1936 as the salvation to "mature" capitalism's alleged inability to produce sufficient demand to bring about productivity. In actuality, however, it was one of the components of Karl Marx's dual strategy for world revolution: Debase the language and the money, and capitalism will fall like a ripe plum. Keynesian economics is nothing but academic humbuggery to justify a sophisticated counterfeiting scheme in order to debase a nation's currency so as to circumvent the laws of nature and get something for nothing (the goal of all collectivist tyrannies since the dawn of civilization). It has brought about massive amounts of paper dollars that work their way into the world's myriad market interactions to wreak havoc like computer viruses worming their way into the world's myriad computers. The Keynesian paradigm has helped to bring about the tyrannical overreach of our Federal Government, it has brought us our present fiscal deficit of $450 billion, and it has given us annual trade deficits that now exceed $500 billion, and show no signs of lessening.

Keynesian policy has created the terribly warped "U.S. centric" globalized trading system that dominates us today. Dollar hegemony rules the world and forces all nations into dependency upon exporting to the giant American Consumption Machine, which itself is grotesquely dependent upon the oligarchic group of FOMC bureaucrats in Washington spewing out ever increasing amounts of paper dollars to "stimulate aggregate demand" at a rate unparalleled in history. This has brought about immense imbalances in international trade and currencies, which feed back on themselves to expand the problems with each new round of "liquidity injections" from the Fed. To try and counter the deteriorating conditions with which the Keynesian paradigm has plagued us, our government is now reduced to exhorting the American people to cash in their savings (via mortgage refinancing) to shop till they drop. This is the horrendous and pitiful legacy of J. M. Keynes. We are now to consume our vital seed corn in a last ditch effort to try and keep our moribund economy afloat through blind, doltish "consumer spending."

From the Keynesian paradigm has also come our economy's massive jobs hemorrhaging to foreign countries. Fiat money inflation coupled with Keynesian consumption dogma has driven Americans to consume more than they wish to produce (which is what unlimited credit and "printing press wealth" do to people's desires). This has created our enormous trade deficit, which has produced the worldwide glut of dollars flowing to third world countries and the Asian tigers. This glut of dollars has led these nations to ratchet up their manufacturing productivity and join in the "export to America mania" as their way to wealth. After all, if the Fed is going to wallpaper the world with trillions of newly printed dollars via international trade, then those nations with cheap labor will naturally use those dollars to produce cheaper goods to export back to America and her Keynesian consumption gluttons. Thus, because the explosions of credit and paper dollars from our Fed are used by American consumers to purchase foreign goods from cheap-labor third world countries, it takes business away from high-cost American manufacturing. In a desperate effort to lower costs and survive, American industry is then compelled to shift large parts of their manufacturing capacity to the cheap-labor nations. Voila! The giant sucking sound of jobs going overseas is heard relentlessly in our land, and will continue to be heard as long as the Fed stays in the monetary wallpaper business.

There are other factors also that contribute to our chronic uncompetitiveness and resultant jobs hemorrhaging. For example: 1) Monopolistic labor union control in the U.S. and its escalation of wages drives our manufacturers offshore in order to reduce labor costs. 2) Our government refuses to mandate reciprocity of product entry with trading partners, thus allowing foreign governments to close their markets to our goods while still selling their goods in America. And 3) Demopublican interventionists in Congress over the past 50 years have built a stupendous crazy quilt of regulations that drives up the cost of our goods and makes many of them uncompetitive.

All these economic problems, though, go back to Keynes and the Marxian induced philosophical train wreck 90 years ago. Keynes' dream to overthrow the classical order of Adam Smith was greatly influenced by Marx's poison. And Marx's poison was created by his gross misunderstanding of capitalism. Marx was a warped genius who let his hatreds dictate his premises, and consequently he erected a giant spider web of fallacies that lesser intellects adopted and sold to the world. Keynes was one of those lesser intellects. He began his career immersed in Fabian socialism in turn-of-the-century England. To the Fabian intellectuals, capitalism was the great evil of existence, and Marxism was the great savior, which they felt had to be brought about gradually rather than violently as Lenin was doing in Russia. Keynes' monetary paradigm fit the Fabians perfectly, and they in turn fit with his desires to insidiously overturn the classical free-market order via monetary debasement and progressive taxation.

Without Keynesian inflation of paper dollars and the Federal Government's consumption driven fiscal policy, our trade and currency imbalances, along with our pyramiding debt and offshore jobs transfer, would never have come into being. We would still be a creditor nation that consumes only what we produce. We would still have a manufacturing base that is capable of employing a growing number of workers. We would still have a genuine currency based upon gold. We would not be trying to TAKE from life by financial chicanery. Instead we would first be GIVING to life by free-enterprise production, then consuming proportionally in return.

Marx's influence on Keynes (as with almost all intellectuals of that era) was immense. Keynes played Rosemary's baby to Marx's philosophical Scratch. Prior to Keynes, socialism and its wealth redistribution had found scant enthusiasm in America. But Keynes smoothed over the harsh Marxist anti-individualism with artful sophistry and clever rhetoric into something salable to Americans. He created an academic shroud of respectability for the crude thievery of inflation. When the crisis of the Depression hit, he was waiting in the wings to whisper his enticements into the ears of a frightened and now receptive people who wanted to believe that the rampant statism he and Roosevelt were promoting would somehow be compatible with the freedom and sound money upon which America had been built. It was not to be, however. Keynes was one of history's greatest charlatans. His monetary paradigm was not compatible with individual freedom and limited government. And it did not cure the Depression; it cursed us with one of the apocalyptic horsemen now riding down upon us.

Horseman #2: Demopublican Political Control

One of the most popular ideas taught in American civics classes is that the strength of the American political system lies in the fact that we have a two-party political process. This, I maintain, is akin to teaching that babies come from storks. It's a fairy tale we spin out to avoid messy details of reality we prefer not to face. The reality is that the Democratic and Republican parties, as distinctive parties, are shams. They have become nothing but two divisions of the Central Leviathan Party. This has been our political reality ever since Dwight Eisenhower defeated the "old guard" individualist Republicans under Robert Taft in 1952 and made the Republicans into a big government welfare-state party like the New Deal Democrats of Roosevelt and Truman. From that year on, there has been no voice in the world of politics for the original Founders' vision. The last vestiges of limited, decentralized government died with Eisenhower's capitulation to Keynes and the New Deal.

In the ensuing decades, the collectivists have skillfully established a deceptive ONE-PARTY dictatorial system, which their media lackeys spin to the public as "two parties" and which the collectivist power elites maintain by waging phony battles every four years, all of which the gullible public buys into. Yet every year no matter who wins at the polls, government grows larger and more fascistic. Therefore, all talk about which of these Tweedledum and Tweedledee institutions is better than the other is a game of "nonsense on stilts" (to borrow a phrase from the 19th century philosopher, Jeremy Bentham). Because both parties subscribe to the same fundamental premises, which manifest in the dictatorial paradigm of fascism, they both end up tyrannizing our lives.

To those Republican sympathizers who still hold out hope that the GOP can be some kind of a solution to the runaway lunacy of today's spendaholics on the Potomac, I offer exhibit A, Mr. Republican himself, President George W. Bush. Remove the scales from your eyes America! This man's spending proclivities (as a percentage of GNP) far exceed those of Bill Clinton's, or Jimmy Carter's, or LBJ's -- all prototypical "big spenders" that preceded him and set the standard for fiscal irresponsibility. George Bush Jr. is as Big Government as you can get! Socialism (or actually fascism) has come to America via a "conservative" administration! But this is the inevitable result when both parties subscribe to the SAME flawed fundamental premises. Those flawed premises are: 1) Government needs to be centralized and highly interventionist to be effective. And 2) it is permissible for political legislation to violate individual rights in order to convey special privileges to groups. It is upon these two dictatorial premises that both Democrats and Republicans structure the entirety of their policies. Arbitrary law has trumped objective law as a policy tool for each of them. Both have abandoned belief in a higher natural law. Both endorse the wholesale violation of rights. Consequently they both are driving us toward economic fascism and dictatorship.

This Demopublican "one-party system" has given us an insufferably oppressive Leviathan that now takes 50% of our earnings every year to disgorge on monstrous personal entitlements and welfare handouts, multi-million dollar congressional pensions, egregious pork barrel projects, farm subsidies, corporation bailouts, foreign aid giveaways, World Bank loans, energy industry subsidies, artistic grants, mass busing programs, regional development programs, revenue sharing programs, and hundreds of other needless projects and regimental bureaucracies. It has brought us a national debt of over $6 TRILLION that requires $300 billion yearly to service. It has saddled us with $43 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities that will need to be paid in future years. It has bankrupted us as a nation. It has eroded our will as a people. It has transformed a resplendent Constitutional system where power resides in the states and localities into a contemptible "majoritarian despotism" where all power now resides in a coterie of ruthless Washington power elites who buy the allegiance of millions of voting dupes every year with bread and circuses.

What a far cry all this overweening prodigality is from the Founders' original intent. Such a system is insanity incarnate. If not radically reformed, it will continue to consume our freedom and earnings like a swarm of locusts consumes a wheat field until we in America are no better off than the simple serfs of feudal times. If we do not gather the forces to stand up to this beast, it will swallow everything in its path until it has created a wasteland of irredeemable death. Demopublicanism's ultimate denouement is apocalypse.

There is only one solution. Americans must form a viable third (or actually second) political party that is capable of competing with the tyrannical monopoly of Demopublicanism. I have outlined an innovative workable strategy for this in my article, "Gold Money and Equal Tax Rates!" that appeared earlier on this website. Without a competitive political vision that exposes the nakedness of the Demopublican emperor, there can be no reprieve from the path to disaster upon which we are now traveling.

Horseman #3: Pax Americana

Pax Americana has been the unfulfilled dream of neo-conservative statists ever since the end of the Cold War, but with the advent of the War on Terrorism, the dream suddenly took a giant step toward becoming a reality. The Paul Wolfowitz doctrine, first hatched in the early nineties, has now become the guidelines for the expansion of American hegemony throughout the world over the next 2-3 decades. This doctrine states that America needs to abandon the conventional foreign policy model of national defense and actively pursue a reshaping of the world, in other words, to get extensively involved in nation building. The Washington Post reported on April 23rd of this year that, "The administration hopes the US-led war in Iraq will lead to a crescent of democracies in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, the Israeli occupied territories and Saudi Arabia....'This is a 25-year project,' one three-star general officer said." On the contrary, this is like Demopublicanism -- insanity incarnate. Human beings and their cultures are not hunks of sociological clay to be molded by foreign governments through the force of military technology and troop occupation. They are unique creatures and institutions that have the right of self-determination.

I love my country and despise the pacifist dupes of the left who automatically take to the streets to protest America's interventionist wars abroad, yet eagerly support the federal Leviathan's interventionist growth at home. I would never associate with their mindless ilk. But I believe with Edward Abby that "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against its own government." It is our first duty, because the prime danger to a nation's freedom is always the nature of government itself.

Our government today has become the most lethal criminal agency in the country. Criminality is defined as the violation of individual rights, and there is no entity in America today more destructive of basic rights than the Federal Government in Washington. It matters not whether it's Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld, or Clinton-Rubin-Talbot running the show. They're all Orwellian brothers of the New World Order.

They have decided to colonize Iraq through PREEMPTIVE WAR in order to promote what they call "benevolent global hegemony" which sadly the American sheep are prone to accepting as a legitimate goal of a nation's foreign policy.

"What is monumentally important about all this and completely ignored by the mainstream press," writes Richard Maybury, "is that the invasion of Iraq was the test case, a precedent. By attacking a country that had not attacked us, the [Bush administration] violated international agreements going all the way back to the 1555 Peace of Augsburg and the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia. They got away with it, so they now intend to reconstruct the whole Mideast...in their own image and likeness, and not one American in a thousand understands enough about it to object." [Early Warning Report, July 2003]

As a result, we will now become bogged down in a tar pit made up of the tribal vestiges of the old Ottoman Empire that the Western powers broke up after World War I. The virulent animosities toward America and the West go back hundreds of years among these people. Their hatreds and animosities toward each other go back thousands of years. They see democracy as a violation of the law of their God, and American culture as the mother of all evils. Yet Washington's black limousine boys think they can go into this kind of hostile environment and just rearrange the people and their ideologies to fit the American way of doing things. This is unbelievable hubris and ignorance regarding history, humanity, religion, culture, and sane foreign policy. But the die has been cast; we are now in there, and no administration (liberal or conservative) will be willing to pull us out for fear of severely losing face. Because we have launched Pax Americana with a preemptive war, we have opened Pandora's Box. There are sure to be other nations that will now follow our precedent in the upcoming years to settle myriad grievances with their neighbors through a first strike. Those who live by preemptive war die by such a sword. This grievous blunder on our part will be the trigger to unleash more serious conflagrations in the years ahead as all nations begin to suffer the pains of a worldwide financial meltdown and look desperately for ways out of their economic suffering? After all, it was the economic suffering of the German people, spawned by the Treaty of Versailles, that brought Hitler and his lunacy down upon Europe. The hubris of Pax Americana has put us on a path to apocalypse.

Horseman #4: The Kondratieff Cycle

The Kondratieff Cycle is a theory of how economies expand and contract. It was formulated by Nikolai Kondratieff who was a Soviet economist during the 1920's. He discovered, through extensive research on prices and other economic data along with sociological and cultural studies stretching back hundreds of years, that there was a 50-60 year grand cycle that capitalist economies go through. They rise, they level off, and then they decline and crash. Out of the decline, they then renew and start the cycle all over again. He traced this cycle back to 1789 and showed in rather convincing style that it was a credible tool of analysis as to how capitalism would progress.

The first cycle he studied began in 1789 and ended in 1849. The second began in 1849 and ended in 1896. The third went from 1896 to 1945. Since Kondratieff was analyzing the cycle in the 1920's, this is where his studies ended -- halfway through the third cycle. But he saw that the decline and crash period was beginning for the third cycle, which we now know extended through the thirties and forties. Unfortunately for Kondratieff, he had discovered something that his communist rulers did not want to know -- that capitalist systems renew themselves rather than permanently self-destruct as Marx had predicted. He was sent to Siberia for his discovery, and apparently died sometime in the 1930's.

But his followers today, such as Ian Gordon, carried on the theory. They have divided the cycle into four phases, Spring-Summer-Autumn-Winter, and have shown where the fourth cycle began about 1945-1949 and is now starting its winter close, due to end sometime around 2010-2015. The cycle has been slightly extended this time because it is tied into the inflation of money, human psychology, and the length of a human lifetime, and lifetimes today are longer than they were in the 19th century. They last around 70 years now instead of 60. So the winter phase of the fourth cycle is happening right now in 2003.

Technically speaking, the Kondratieff Cycle is not really a product of the Marxian philosophical train wreck like the other three horsemen above. It goes back at least 215 years to 1789. But since its origin lies with inflationary monetary policy, it has been greatly exacerbated since the inception of the Federal Reserve in 1913. This is because the Fed greatly expanded the practice of inflation over what the decentralized banking system of the 19th century was capable of doing. Prior to 1913, only small Kondratieffs affected our economy. Since then, Big Kondratieff has descended upon us. This can be observed in the fact that the booms and busts prior to 1913 were milder affairs. But after 1913, the boom of the 20's and the following crash of the 30's were whoppers. And the recent boom of the 90's has been a gargantuan whopper. This is ominous, because it tells us that the crash period we are now entering will be the worst that history has ever recorded. Thus, because of the creation of the Federal Reserve in the U.S. in 1913 and its ability to explosively expand fiat money to levels never before dreamed of, we can say Big Kondratieff is a product of 20th century banking, which is a product of the Marxian philosophical train wreck of the 1900-1920 era.

What Kondratieff theory tells us is that the boom-bust cycle that inflationary monetary policy brings about creates prodigious amounts of debt that eventually overwhelm society. A period of liquidation then must follow in order for the economy to regain its health. When Kondratieff theory is integrated with Ludwig von Mises' Austrian analysis of inflationary monetary policy, one is presented with a startlingly clear picture of WHY and HOW our economic troubles over the past 65 years have come about. Inflationary monetary policy (through fractional reserve banking) is the evil seed that once planted will spawn some very noxious and destructive weeds. Fractional reserve banking began in the U.S. in the 19th century, but because we were still on the gold standard and still maintained a decentralized banking system, it was muted in its destructive effects. Our big troubles began when we created the Federal Reserve in 1913 and went off the gold standard in 1933. This greatly magnified the boom-bust nature of Kondratieff. Compounding these two disasters was our adoption of Keynesian economic fallacies and Roosevelt's New Deal government aggrandizement. The last 65 years have been a horrifying exercise in piling disastrous policies on top of the evils of Keynes and Roosevelt (e.g., Eisenhower's merging of the political parties, LBJ's Great Society, Nixon's closing of the gold window, Reagan's phony tax cuts, Clinton's pseudo strong dollar, etc.). The final coup de grace of the 90's has been the gift of Greenspan & Co. -- his wild, hallucinatory expansion of the money supply that culminated in the blow off top of the stock market. A long devastating Kondratieff winter now awaits us. This is the price that excess brings, and there has never been an era of history marked with more excess than the past 65 years. Every standard of propriety in every facet of our lives -- political, economic, cultural, social, sexual, artistic, etc. -- has been trashed. There are no rules, no ethics, no limits. Amorality dominates. Keynesianism corrupts. Government expands. Freedom recedes. Lives dissipate. The decline and crash phase is upon us. Somewhere Nikolai Kondratieff is saying, "I told you so."

What Can We Conclude from This?

A mongrel form of Marxism took over America in the early 20th century and created a "collectivist curvature of the mind" among the reigning intelligentsia. Out of this collectivist curvature, came the philosophical train wreck of the early 20th century that has brought us today's New Horsemen of the Apocalypse. These four horsemen, Keynesianism, Demopublicanism, Pax Americana, and Kondratieff, are now riding down upon our society and driving us closer and closer to the horrendous maelstrom that will end the world as we know it.

Dust clouds of sophistry, propaganda, and gullibility still hide the horsemen from clear view by the people, but the salient and strong minded are not fooled. They see through the establishment's evasive tricks and perceive what is coming. They understand that men cannot continue forever to get from life more than they put into life -- which is the evil ideology that Marx and his Keynesian spawn have conned modernity into believing can be done. "You can be like gods," was the whispered enticement 90 years ago. "You can create wealth without work. You can have Utopia without strife. It will all be so easy. You need only to purge yourselves of the senseless anachronisms of the Founding Fathers. You need only to renounce gold and the free-market. You can have power and riches beyond your wildest dreams."

Never in history has a nation confronted a coalescence of tidal forces such as these. One must go back to the 4th and 5th century and the 200-year fall of Rome to find parallels. Since the speed of information transfer in today's world is greatly accelerated over that of Rome's day, we will not take 200 years to descend into the maelstrom and perhaps a new Dark Ages. My guess is that we will do it in about a third of the time it took Rome to collapse. Since it can legitimately be said we've been declining as a society for the past 50 years since Eisenhower's ushering in of Demopublicanism in 1952, we have precious little time left in my opinion.

Cataclysm is headed our way. I speak not religiously here, but historically, politically, economically. This is not an "end times" scenario. We will endure as a nation, but in what form -- slave or free? If freedom is to survive the cataclysmic times ahead, it will be because there are still those who can see the big picture, still those who understand that natural law rules all men, still those who possess the contrarian will to fight with word and deed -- not for what is popular, but for what is TRUE. The first requisite of all such contrarian fighters is to take dead aim at the four horsemen riding down upon our society today. Spread the word of their danger. Time is short.

The Helicopter's Grim Future in Modern Combat

Despite our rapid defeat of the Iraqi army last spring, one clear lesson that has emerged from both the combat and occupation phases of the war is that the entire concept of helicopter operations in battle is undermined by their extreme vulnerability to ground fire.

Unlike our experience in the jungles and wooded mountains of Vietnam,
the helicopter is a prime and easy target in desert and urban warfare
environments such as we have seen in Somalia, and are still seeing in
Iraq and Afghanistan.

The combat record of the helicopter in Vietnam was different from
subsequent battlefields. That was true by virtue of the limitations of
the Viet Cong-NVA firing accuracy, the limitations of their weaponry -
including quantity - and the visual limitations of the jungle or forests which served to protect the helicopters flying overhead.

It was also true that the UH-1 Huey was a simple and tough helicopter,
easily repaired. The application of the helicopter was uniquely
successful in a unique environment. And, their relatively low cost
ensured that quantity was rarely a factor.


The harsh reality is that today the helicopter is a terrible choice of
troop transport or firepower against any competent or well-equipped
force - of any size.


Whether in Mogadishu 10 years ago or Iraq today, the helicopter equation has changed for the worse. Typically, the adversary's ground arms are more available. And whether by luck or skill, the effectiveness of enemy ordnance is far greater than that experienced
in Vietnam.


While the details remain unclear eight months after the fact, the only
major battle in the Iraq war centered on U.S. attack helicopters ended
in mission failure. The raid involved 40 AH-64D Apache Longbow
helicopters that attacked Iraqi Republican Guard units south of Baghdad
on March 24. One was shot down (the two crewmen taken prisoner) and 30
returned to base having sustained severe damage. The Washington Post
subsequently reported: "In attacking a formation of about 40 Apache
Longbows on Monday, the Iraqis staged a classic helicopter ambush first
perfected by the North Vietnamese in the 1960s. As the lethal,
tank-killing aircraft approached on a mission to destroy the Medina
Division's dispersed armor, troops dispersed throughout a palm-lined
residential area and opened fire with antiaircraft guns,
rocket-propelled grenades and a wall of fire from rifles and other small arms.

"The Iraqi fire was so intense that the Apaches had to break off their
mission and return to base."

The results of that failed mission strongly suggest that the modern
helicopter is a battlefield liability, versus such close air support
aircraft as the A-10.


The Iraqis in 2003 seemed to have adapted a lesson from the Afghani
resistance that fought the Soviets more than 20 years ago and was
repeated over Mogadishu in 1993: The art of downing a helicopter is a
well-known methodology - lure and destroy.


Of particular concern to the helicopter pilot today is the time-tested
Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). They are cheap and effective weapons.
"Close" counts with RPGs, given their 4.2-second time-fuse and
associated 900-meter burst-range (lacking physical contact), ensures
that a volley of RPG firings will be effective against the frailty of a
helicopter's main or tail rotor.


Second, the electronic frailty of the modern helicopter leaves an
exposed Achilles heel. Packed with "black box" components, wire bundles
and sensors, the modern helicopter is at a terrible disadvantage against a machine gun or even an ordinary rifleman's bullet. Beyond the combat scene, the maintenance factor for modern UH-60 or AH-64 helicopters is also a major challenge, compared with the Huey or CH-47 Chinook from the Vietnam era. Given the limited numbers of helicopters, ground time is the greatest expense and also a liability.


A third element of weakness involves the matter of budgetary limits on
basic airmanship and training flights. Time and again, the events
surrounding the helicopter accidents and combat losses show a distinct
pattern of inadequate training in basic flying skills, judgment and
tactics. Whether a high-altitude accident or a midair collision, certain truths stand out. There should be no doubt that part of this problem stems from unrealistic expectations by mission planners.


The modern helicopter pilot finds more demand on his/her data management skills than airmanship. The dollar expense of "blade time" additionally detracts from the skill of the pilots, through non-currency and total experience in actual flight.


Unfortunately, in a combat zone, the smart pilot must deviate from the
"standardization" of the infamous "classroom solution," even as it
pertains to safety. Landing into the wind is suicide if an enemy gunner
is awaiting just that arrival. Since there are multiple forms of combat
scenarios, a simple set of tactics is impossible to devise.

Still, there are a number of tactics that can help protect helicopters
from enemy ground forces:

1. Alter any takeoff and landing directions from known or predictable
helipads.

2. Never fly a predictable or constant schedule, route, course,
altitude, "race-track" or other any other identifiable or easily
predictable flight path. That includes constant hovering positions,
including "nap-of-the-earth" flight.

3. Never follow a predictable altitude or route, including rivers,
canyons, streets or roads, for any length of time.

4. Evade any population centers, such as a town or village.

5. If these rules must be compromised, arrange for effective fighter
cover and rescue capability.

6. In multi-ship missions, allow at least 500 meters between aircraft,
so as to allow all aircraft room to maneuver without risking collision
or restriction of defensive gunnery. That includes the basic airmanship
of always turning, so as to view a clear spot, whether climbing,
descending or staying level.

7. Vary any insertion or extraction tactics as well as those of support
aircraft and their stand-off defensive coverage.

8. Be aware that helicopters have no significant surprise element, given their speed and noise. Thus, pilots must be aware that going into an unprepared LZ is extremely dangerous. This is especially true if the LZ presents itself as a predictable insertion point, particularly if a
"pathfinder" is not used. One landmine can destroy a helicopter and its mission.

9. Be certain during night operations that a minimum of light from the
ground - as simple as a trash-fire barrel - will illuminate the rotor
blades, marking the helicopter as an easy target.

10. Never fly a mission without overwhelming firepower in immediate
reserve, whether artillery or air cover. That includes rescue
capability. In light of the above helicopter limitations, the U.S.
military is proceeding to repeat the current crisis by fielding the
MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. Many news reports over the past five
years have cited the aircraft as unsafe in any environment. The FAA
won't certify its use for civilians, yet the Marine Corps and Air Force
Special Operations Command are preparing to entrust the fate of
America's finest combat troops to an aircraft that begs of disaster.

A schedule of design changes and flight tests have supposedly ironed out some of the MV-22's problems. However, critics who study the flight
history of the Osprey cannot shake a deep suspicion that its basic
flight parameters will prove fatal on the modern battlefield. Just one
identified limit, the Osprey's maximum descent rate, is so slow as to
leave it a sitting duck for any amount of rifle fire alone.

Beyond the risk of life, the MV-22 also comes with an increasingly
exorbitant starting price tag - $68 million apiece - independent of such factors as combat maintenance and repair. Worse, its marginal
suitability compromises any mission effectiveness.

The final issue regarding helicopters on the battlefield comes down to
an unpleasant premise. The United States may not always be conducting
war with a third-world country. It is clear that any competent army
armed with sophisticated anti-aircraft weaponry or aviation assets, will quickly drive our fleet of attack and reconnaissance helicopters from the sky, rendering them to a marginal role as a vehicle used for air evacuation and mop-up operations.

It remains to be seen whether senior U.S. military leaders have the
awareness and moral courage to recognize how endangered military
helicopters have become.

America’s Dangerous Agenda

America’s new service to an aggressive ideology is a turning point in history. Americans need to realize that nothing good will come of it.

Are the consequences of the U.S. invasion of Iraq likely to be a secular, democratic Middle East and a victory over terrorism, as the Bush administration claims? Or has the administration embarked on an adventure with unintended consequences beyond its imagination?

Hegemonic powers are not immune from miscalculation. When Napoleon marched his Grand Armee into Russia, he overlooked that defeating Russia was different from seizing its capital, and that wintering in distant Moscow would give his European enemies ample opportunity to plot against him. In his haste to return to Paris, Napoleon lost an army to freezing temperatures and guerrillas. The consequence of humiliating the Russians by driving them from their capital was a great diminution in Napoleon’s military resources.

When Hitler began World War II proclaiming “a thousand-year Reich,” he had no idea that the consequence
of his aggression would be a Germany politically impotent for 60 years and now about to become a mere province in a European state. Hitler could not have imagined that the consequence of his “final solution” would be a Jewish state armed with a powerful psychological weapon that prohibits criticism of Israel’s own expansionist policy.

Bush’s military adventure also will have unintended consequences. We can see that already. The U.S. occupation
of Iraq and the resistance to it bear no resemblance to the rosy scenario concocted by Bush’s advisors.

Despite the presence of 130,000 U.S. troops armed with massive firepower, Iraqi insurgents have successfully
attacked fortified U.S. compounds and driven the UN, the Red Cross and various aid agencies out of Iraq. Routine guerrilla attacks on U.S. troops have caused more American casualties than the invasion itself. The U.S. government is not in control of Iraq, and analogies to Vietnam no longer seem implausible.

Successful occupation or not, the larger strategic consequences are more ominous. The blatant exercise of U.S. and Israeli hegemony over Muslim states is radicalizing Muslim populations and could result in the fall of Western-imposed secular rulers.

The West has been able to dominate hundreds of millions of Muslims because the latter are disunited and have impotent states, many of which are dependent on U.S. aid. U.S. invasion and threats of invasion and Israel’s creation of a Palestinian ghetto are unifying Muslims in anger. Growing Islamic resistance, described in the West as terrorism, is a direct and predictable result of the U.S.-Israeli exercise of hegemony.

In the Western democracies, culture and religion have been deracinated. In pursuit of diversity, the U.S. government no longer attempts to assimilate the massive inflow of immigrants.

In contrast, Muslims retain a sense of themselves. The concepts and emotions that caused 19th-century Western gentlemen to fight duels over honor drive Muslims to violence today. The U.S. government can defeat Muslim armies, but unless it resorts to genocide, the U.S. government cannot occupy a hostile Middle East either directly or, as in the past, through surrogates.

One consequence of Bush’s invasion of Iraq could be that the U.S. government will be driven out of the Middle East. Another result could be that Middle Eastern states will redirect oil flows to Asia’s rising economic powers.

If Muslims succeed in overthrowing the U.S.-supported Pakistani military ruler, Muslims would possess nuclear weapons. This would checkmate U.S. hegemony and could prompt an Israeli or an Israeli-Indian-U.S. change the world in unpredictable ways.

Just as Israel has squandered its moral capital by its brutal treatment of Palestinians, the U.S. government, frustrated that its military superiority cannot deter insurgency and terrorism, is becoming increasingly brutal in Iraq, bulldozing homes and orchards, and sealing off towns with barbed wire and automatic weapons.

Bush speaks propagandistically when he says that Muslims hate us for our freedom. They hate us for the disrespect we show them. Invasion, threats, orders, brutality and the killing of civilians make them hate us more.

The U.S. government and Israel are achieving their own isolation in the world. Tony Blair is the only fig leaf Bush has for his naked aggression against Iraq. The world is too large for any state to base leadership on fear.

U.S. leadership in the 20th century was based on the U.S. claim to the moral high ground. By their own brutal actions, the Japanese, German National Socialists and communists ceded the moral high ground to America.

With the exception of propagandized Americans, the entire world recognizes that the invasion of Iraq was based on fabrications akin to those used by Hitler to justify his invasion of Poland. America’s invasion of Iraq is the first adventure of neo-conservative ideologues willing to use any means to impose their “democratic” agenda on the rest of the world, especially the Middle East.
